Den Picture Window Replacement

Den Picture Window Replacement

Den Picture Window Replacement had a lot of thought process as the size was not standard, the width was 60 inches so that was not an issue, however the height was 53 1/2.

In 1987 when it was installed they did not do anything with the glass to stop UV rays and heat and cooling loss from the outside to the room. Also this window was facing almost directly south allowing direct sun into the room as it was clear single pane glass.

The research I did for that size window concluded that it had to be special ordered to fit in the frame. The price ranged from $750 to $850 which was also a window that did not open, this was an issue for us as the breeze on cooler days had no windows facing south beside this 5 foot wide window,

Looking at the custom size windows that did open the price jumped well over $1,000. Now the heavy thought process really got into high gear and I hope this experience will help someone else facing this problem, by the way these were half the price of my cheapest option.

My solution was to special order 2 double hung windows with 1/2 screens at 27 3/4 wide and the 53 1/2 needed to fit the frame. then using a 4×4 post in-between the 2 windows it came out just short of the 60″ so I had some wiggle room.

Problem fixed the sun rays were like night and day from the old window and the divider post looks fine to us. plus the both open and have Low-E argon.

New On Left Old On Right

One last note I used United replacement windows for my first time and am impressed with these windows. I have already done several windows here in the past but these look like they will outperform the others.
