Moving in Lots to do

Good thing I am retired because it needs lots of work.

Not sure what I am getting myself into, the house has not been lived in for the past year, water pipes are cracked in the walls and in the crawl spaces, the location is great for me as I am over the traffic and taxes in VA.

The 2 neighbors I have met are very nice, located on a dead end street and in a small town traffic is very low.

In total it’s 4 BR 2 1/2 bath and roughly 2,800 SQ Feet including the guest house, it has 3 fireplaces plus an oversize 2 car garage built around 2004 but looks old, the den is also an addition that is not that old, the den is 410 sq feet, plus a smokehouse turned into a shed

The main farmhouse and the guest house which was attached to farmhouse as a kitchen was separated and moved to the back.

Imagine life with no power tools or electric or plumbing, everything hand built, the blacksmith made the nails, trees were used as support beams.

Lot’s of work to be done for one person! This is my new full time job.

Update I met someone years ago on Facebook that has turned out to be a great match for me, she moved here from Texas and we get along very well, she has been a great help for me.

Starting guest bath rebuild

The guest bath rebuild which looks like 80’s is far worse than I thought it was, the mold below the sink was very bad, always use precautions when working with mold and paint that may contain lead.

I tested for lead at the guest house bathroom and the results were negative. I’m sure lead will be found somewhere, however the guest house bathroom was added to the former kitchen (Now guest house) at a much later date. The wall insulation behind the shower walls was date coded 1987
