Roof Repair: Dealing with Rust and Repainting for a Perfect Match

Roof Repair

The guest house roof facing southwest had rusted in several locations, luckily this was the worse location I had to deal with. Rust on the surface does not mean you need to replace it, if it’s not all the way through it needs to be sanded and primed “before” holes develop.

Using a sander did not work well however the 4.5″ grinder did the job, once the rust was ground down metal primer was used then repainting to match the garage roof color which was not successful at first, the mixed paint color looked correct in Lowes however once it started going down it clearly was too blue so another trip back to Lowes for more paint, this time it was a great match to the garage color.
