Window Replacement Before Winter for a Warmer Home

Window Replacement Before Winter for a Warmer Home

I planned doing replacement windows before winter sets in. So these are now done.

Additionally, three windows on the front and side were on my must-do list. Last year they let in so much cold that I used cheap plastic wrap to seal leaks.

Besides that problem they did not open, had no screens, chalked and painted, and pinned shut as if they were glued in place.

These are what they call 6 over 6 windows, and some of the hand-blown glass is still there, but many have been replaced with newer glass after the 1850s, which is when the hand-blown era was ending.

Yes, they could have been restored. Looking at older homes that had this done, plexiglass was still added inside to help with heating and cooling.

Additionally, we wanted to be able to open the windows for fresh air. We also aimed to save energy costs in summer and winter.
