Gutter Installation and Stump Burn: A Cost-Effective Solution for Yard Maintenance

Gutter and Stump Burn

Ok I burnt a Stump and added a gutter while waiting! Yes it’s not a normal work process but it took 5 days to burn down this 40+ inch tree stump, why burn you may ask, I did not want to shell out $650 to have it ground down, the whole tree which was 40 feet tall only cost me $600. Well all I can say is it’s a very slow burn process, I took pictures every day and after 5 days it’s almost gone.

Now onto the guest house which has no gutters! The front gets soaked in front of the porch and makes its way into the crawlspace which you can see in the past I added a sump pump to drain the water.

The grade of the soil needs to be lower but that is not easily done, at least now all the water coming off the roof will go towards the down slope on the side and to the small creek. Also the downspout is not installed and no cap is on the right side, I may just leave it off as all the water flows off the side where I want it to go, plus no clogging from leaves, etc.

I also added a soffit to the bottom to reduce the wasp nests that I keep knocking down.
