Finally a dishwasher in the kitchen!

Dishwasher in the kitchen

I’m overdue to post this update, the weather and holidays have slowed things however my son has finished painting the roof and I have painted the porch floor.

The kitchen will take time, the good news is the last appliance has been purchased along with a new sink, we now have a built-in dishwasher! No more appliances are needed! In one of these photos you can see where the stove and microwave used to be (see phase 1 for the new location)

The old vent has been removed, new drywall and 1 new 24″x 30″ wall cabinet has been hung, until I remove all the old base cabinets and add new countertops I am just using plywood temporary, this new design was the best way to add about 5′ of counter space and add the dishwasher plus more wall cabinets which were very needed. Removing the double window and adding the full glass door was the best solution to gain wall space.

Kitchens get used a lot right?, and expensive to remodel this is why I am doing this in phases not to mention we have to cook, starting with the fact it’s not a big kitchen and more wall space was needed for cabinets and more counter space is also needed I decided after much thought I would remove the double window and gain wall space for cabinets and relocate the stove to gain space for a dishwasher as well. This move gives us 5 more feet of counter space plus room for a dishwasher and 5 more cabinets!

The pictures will show the old stove location as well as inside and outside views to the old window, geez after I took it all down it looked scary to me to think I needed to get this back together by the end of the day however the other bonus is now we have a walk out door to the side porch which I have screened in previously, the door is full view glass to replenish the light loss in the window removal, the new cabinets have plywood in place of countertops temporary as these will get installed later.

On a construction note nothing has been easy, it seems after 200+ years square and flat are no longer valid, the door is so out of plum I have to remove siding at a later date and replace/ add studs to make it right. The last pic shows the view from the outside. So far we are very pleased with the progress.
