Replacing Rheem Heat and AC Packaged Unit with Mr Cool 2-3 Ton Universal Heat Pump for Energy Savings

Central Heat pump gathering parts and planning.

As I had mentioned the Rheem heat and AC packaged unit is going to be replaced with Mr Cool 2-3 Ton Universal heat pump, designed to produce heat even in extreme cold climates. I expect to recoup my costs within 3 years.

This house has never had a split system and I will lose roughly 2 foot square space in the 1st level bedroom. The delivery took over a month to arrive here, I am glad I ordered this on Aug 5th as the outside temps will start going down soon, the old unit will be shut down and I will be without central air for days due to the amount of work needed.

I just wanted to post some pictures of the new unit and will update later, not sure how long this will take to complete but I am looking forward to energy savings, Note the new system is switchable (Dip Switches) from 2 tons to 3 tons making the SEER rating change from 18 to 20.

The Rheem 3 ton unit is on a 50 amp circuit breaker the new unit only needs a 30 amp which tells me it uses much less power to run.

Upgrade to Energy-Efficient HVAC System: Replace Window ACs with Mini Split Heat Pump/AC and Install Universal System for Better Cooling and Heating Efficiency

The 2 window AC’s are no longer needed in the guest house! The new 12,000 BTU (1 Ton) Mini split heat pump/AC takes care of the cooling and heating needs, Located in the kitchen area with a vaulted ceiling the **1 bedroom gets added air flow from the wall fan I added above the refrigerator**. works well! Update The fan is no longer needed as the wall section has been removed during the floor repairs.

Next big job will be the main house central HVAC which will not be a packaged unit I am installing a universal system. last year I added a 1 ton 19 SEER mini split to the den last year and it’s great! However the other 6 rooms are heated and cooled by a 3 ton “packaged” unit installed in 2005 rated at 12 SEER with gas (propane) furnace.

The new system will be a heat pump rated up to 20 SEER also heats below 0 without electric backup. also it’s switchable from 2 to 3 tons cooling, I am installing the air handler in the home and doing away with some big duct work that is in the crawlspace including removing the 3 ducts that run to the den as they are no longer needed with the 1 ton mini split.

That said I have 2 new mini split units and one more system to install.
